Mission Trip Summary –Papua New Guinea
The recent surgical mission to the highlands of Papua New Guinea was successfully completed. Over a two-week period, our multidisciplinary team—comprising a pediatric nurse practitioner, a neonatologist, two pediatric surgeons and a pediatric research fellow—performed more than thirty pediatric surgical interventions.
Throughout the mission, we collaborated closely with our colleagues, the local surgeons, to address a diverse range of complex pediatric cases, as well as several challenging adult cases. This partnership fostered valuable opportunities for shared learning, skills exchange, and capacity building within the local healthcare system.
We are pleased to have been able to return to the Highlands of Papua New Guinea and remain committed to strengthening this ongoing collaboration. Our future plans include the initiation of joint research projects and scheduled return visits every three months to continue advancing surgical care and education in the region.
